Skaven Jezzail Teams

Skaven Jezzailachis hunt Jabberwocks amoungst the Slithy Toves.  Brave souls.  Best of luck to them.
I think I've gotten quite a bit closer to the look I'd like my Skaven army to have.  Slathering on lots of dark brown wash and experimenting with inks (thanks, Dave) has resulted in a substantially more filthy, flea-chewed look.
There's one!  Hold still, dang it!
Overall, much happier with how these little rat friends look.  Now I just have to go back and give some of the other regiments I've painted a makeover to match them.
These original Skaven scupts are still the best ever produced in my opinion.  Nothing else comes close.
...and this is was of my favorite sculpts in the line.  He didn't come out very well overall, but his broach looks ok.  This is the first time I've painted one of those big fat warhammery gemstones and have had it come out looking sort of  alright.  That's a bit encouraging.
Ka-Blam!  Plenty more to do.  Next comes some more Clan Moulder stuff, then a mighty block o' clanrats.  Then again I have to get back to my Flames of War stuff soon.  Grr!  So many projects, so little time!

  1. They look great, ready to gyre and gimble in the wabe. Try Black Tree Vermen as well, they are often on sale, and the Caesar 1/72 ratmen are very good as weak skaven (and cheap too).

  2. A grat job on some great models... I like how you've based them too.

  3. Glad the inking is working out for you. It's a great technique but can be finicky for stuff that shouldn't look grubby. I like you bamboo stands....what are they?

I really dig "Skaven Jezzailachis hunt Jabberwocks amoungst the Slithy Toves. Brave souls. Best of luck to them." Very atmospheric.

  4. Thanks, Dave! The bamboo stands come straight from the aquarium/terrarium aisle at the pet store. A lot of my terrain originates there, though I am working on some home made sci-fi themed pieces right now that are intended to go with my Deep Cut desert mat. I may start posting those soon. The Jabberwock thing just came to me as I was putting up the photos as a way to dress up the post but now that I think about it, it might make a cool game...I do have a pair of Jabberwocks in the lead mountain, one Ral Partha and one Citadel. Maybe I should drag them to the painting table?

    1. I think it could be a pretty sweet game. Not sure what rule set to use. I feel like there is some dinosaur hunting game available for free/cheap that might channel the right sort of feel....

  5. Mr. Mouse - you did indeed get them to look sufficiently filthy and flea-chewed. And I think you're too hard on yourself about Skreth, the rat pointing with his finger. He looks baneful as all hell.
