Big Blackie's Ultimate Black Chariot of Despair

UUUGHHHHHH.....We've all had our hobby disaster moments.  Up until now, the worst I've had, that I can remember, anyway, was the time I accidentally sprayed an entire rank of freshly finished Goblins with white primer instead of clear sealant.
Wreckage
This is worse.  I've spent the last two weeks working on Big Blackie's Ultimate Black Chariot of Blackness.  I'd used an entire spool of artist's wire and twisted and crimped it to make reins and tackle, and to secure the little gubbins I'd added on...skull stakes and shields and like that.  There was nothing left to do but finish the eyes on the Orcs and flock and edge the base.  Then an Hour or two to finish shading and detailing Big Blackie himself and...finally...it would be finished.
Carnage

I'd flocked one side of the base and was trying to turn it to do the other side when...somehow...I dropped it.
Dead Pig

Normally it wouldn't be a huge deal, but so much of the wire is bent and twisted and the paint is all flaking off.  I was really proud of how it looked, too.  I've tried to bend some of it back into shape, but so far it has seemed more inclined to fray and break than to re-align.

And yes, I get that breaking your stupid Orc chariot is a first world sort of problem but....God damn it, anyway!!

Well, that screws up the rest of my night.  I'm going to admit to defeat, have a drink and then retreat, snarling, to my bed.  I'll fight again another day.

  1. Oh no! First world problem it may be, doesn't stop it being upsetting when you F#%¥ up your own creation at the last second. Deep breath, clip the wires base the boars and start again, you enjoyed it first time round, it will be quicker and come out even better the second time.

  2. That is a dreadful sight, you have my deepest sympathies! That said it can be repaired and tomorrow, hopefully, you'll feel inclined to give it a go.

  3. Oh no, you poor fellow, my sympathies....but out of the ashes a new and mightier orc conveyance will arise. Give it a day or so and return, crimpers in hand. (I've dropped newly varnished figures into flock, and all that sort of thing...most infuriating).

  4. All my condolences brother... Nothing's more irritating than ruining hours of work in mere seconds. Frosting models instead of neatly varnishing them is my nightmare now. I wish you can get past the rage and have a great Xmas !

  5. Thanks, British chums, for the encouraging words. We'll see how I feel about it after a day or two. Merry Christmas to all!

  6. Just an inquiry; Why place the boars in a huge flank and not a smaller frontage, that alot of possible hits against the chariot should rheir victims not automatically flee from being hit in the flank (hooefully that is the charge line you get).. Scythed wheels are simple amazing especially sinve their hits suoecede all others.
Hooe im not stepping on toes but two rows of 3 boars would look amazing and put grom the paunch's 3 wolf chariot to Shame. I also suggest you magetize the wheels, they will break over and over.
I used florists wire (dollar store) by cutting a long strip and then folding in half and twisting until you get the gauge/ tighness yiure looking for.
    This such an audacious project!
Chariots are quite tricky in 3rd edition, alot of fine print when itcomes to crew equip nad cutting dead animals loose.
I hooe all the best with your project and a happy new year Mr Mouse, again great ideai hooe it works out

    1. Hey, 24 cigs! Sorry, I didn't see this post! I was really just planning on using it as an ordinary 2 wolf chariot for game purposes. I arranged the boars the way I did just for the visuals. I liked the idea of six pigs shoulder to shoulder charging toward the fray like a great stinking, flea bitten tide of horn, hoof and mangy hide. I may consider changing them up into two ranks of three when I return to it. Thanks and a happy new year to you as well!
