It's a great kit, clearly based on the classic Lovecraft story At the Mountains of Madness. Such a great kit, in fact, that I'm starting to put together a wintry terrain set-up for pulpy adventures in the far north. Or south. Fans of Mountains will recognize the man-sized blind albino cave penguin which appears in the tale's final horrifying moments.
Investigator #1
Investigator #2.
Note worried expression.
Invesitgator #3...examining some small token of an unimaginable lost civilization...
"WAAAGGAAAGARBLEGARBLEGARBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Horrendous, Shoggoth-y polyp-y thing.

I was very close to buying a TSR Indian Jones miniatures set for very similar reasons. These super little chaps are making me regret not getting my pulp/gothic horror on.
ReplyDeletemay I suggest Pulp ally as a suitably pulpy game set easily adapted to the Lovecraftian.
Thanks Erny! And thanks also for the tip on Pulp Alley. I haven't settled on a rule set for my Pulp adventures yet.
DeleteAbsolutely superb! What a great set and beautifully painted too, making me think of Carpenter's Thing!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much, Michael! I had Carpenter's Thing on while I was flocking the bases and finishing them up, actually. Great old film.
DeleteBrilliant and inspiring! I wasn't even aware that this set existed.
ReplyDeleteThaks very much! Rafm is a sadly under-appreciated company. I believe this kit has been in production for about twenty years. You might want to check out their website. This is not the only 'Call of Cthulhu 'expedition' kit they have available.
DeleteAha, just checked it out and realised that you can get a Victorian Adventurers set - which is the set of characters for the Space 1889 Temple of the Beastman game. A game which I own, but have never played. Seems like a good project! (like I need another project...)
