A very Nordic looking fighter and a female thief make up the first two members of our intrepid band...
Stalwart Norseman, Axe in hand, ready for Giant Spiders or Trolls or God knows what to emerge from the trees...
A female footpad flits noiselessly from shadow to shadow along the forest path...
A female fighter and a cleric stand ready to lay into the monsters of the forest with hard strokes of sword and flail...
Doubtless a devotee of some fierce cult stressing blood and fire, the Cleric calls up the powers of his vengeful God to support his companions and smite their foes...
A cold shield maiden of the far north, journeying far from the frigid wastes of her distant homeland...
Tried so hard not to screw up the eyes but couldn't quite pull it off in the end. He still looks ok on the table top...
Resolutely standing watch over tenantless ridges and mountain tops he calls home, frequently blasting them with fiery spells and always on the watch for the killer rabbit who haunts those lonely peaks, an Enchanter has joined the party to act as their magic user...There are some who call him...Tim??
Dungeons and Dragons, The Karen Edition
Some absolute classics there. I wonder which came first.... Ral Partha wizard or Monty python and the Holy Grail.
ReplyDeleteHe appears in one of the earliest RP catalogs as "enchanter" 1979, I think. That would have been 4 years after Holy Grail came out. It would have been nice to have some more characters from the film. Say, maybe Dr. Piglet and Dr. Winston.
DeleteYour Tim is great and there seems to be quite a few minis inspired by him from various manufacturers! Love this intrepid little band - I'm really in to these older Ral Partha sculpts at the moment and you've done a great job bringing them to life!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Thantsants! I am very fond of Tom Meier's work. His sculpting had a grace and delicacy that always makes me think of classical statuary. There is a bunch of other stuff in the 1/2 painted heap, to include Dungeon Party #4. Hopefully I can get them finished soon. And then there is the Colonial and Condottieri stuff that I've been amassing for years but probably won't get around to painting until I retire. Sigh.
DeleteDamn, this is time travel. Great job!
ReplyDeleteAncient days of hunting through hobby store shelves and paper catalogs. Accept, Iron Maiden, and Motorhead late Saturday night on MTV. Excalibur and Conan the Barbarian on Showtime. Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. Hairstyles with enough mousse to make any woman a fire hazard. You bought music on cassette tapes. You didn't play D&D on a phone or a pc. You played it on a table.
